Napoleon declared himself emperor of France
Yesterday, in Paris, Napoleon Bonaparte declared himself emperor of France. The ceremony was in the Notre Dame Cathedral, this was aproved by the French citizens in the french constitucional referendum.
Napoleon before this he was the first consul , who established himself as the head of a more authoritarian, autocrático and centralized republican government in France. This event has marked the instaniation of the modern empire. On May 18, the Sénat conservateur vested the Republican government of the French First Republic in an Emperor. Some of his motivations for being crowned has been to gain prestige in international royalist and Catholic milieux and to lay the foundation for a future dynasty.
