Farmers Invent a new system in Norfolk
This new crop rotation technique has been developed in Norfolk, England by Lord Townshend.
The new system four-year crop rotation has contributed to the agrarian revolution, with an increase on productivity, leaving food for the livestock and avoiding the fallow. This crop rotation doesn´t hurt the soil and the animal `` waste´´ is used for fertilizing the soil.
The system is based on a four-year crop rotation. The crops rotate regularly so the soil does not run out of nutrients, crops depend on the area where they are grown, half of them will be used for feeding the livestock and the other half for human consumption. The fallow is eliminated and the production increases.
Townshend was born in 1674, he dedicated part of his life to politics. He was Secretary of State during a decade, and later he become ambassador in the Netherlands. When he left the politics, he returned to his field in Norfolk. In 1730, he started designing the new system basing on what he has saw on the Netherlands. Unfortunately, he died in 1738 after he finished his research. And finally, in 1740 the new system has been applied in great part of England and some places of Europe contributing to the agrarian revolution.
