A REPUBLIC INSTALLED IN SPAIN!
A republic is installed after the abdication of king Amadeo.
Yesterday, the eleventh of February of 1873, the spanish Republic has been approved by the diputees of the congress in Madrid in a democratical votation. The new form of goverment was approved after the abdication of Amadeo of Savoy and the demonstrations of several republican parties of Madrid.
The reign of Amadeo of Savoy has been riddled of problems, like the oposition of the carlistas, alfonsistas and repulicans. All of these summed up with the war in Cuba was all what he was going to stand. “I am not going to rule a country if its citizens do not want me as their king” Amadeo said in his leaving speech.
Although the different political parties, like the one of general Serrano wanted to get together for looking what would be the best and what the citizens wanted, the republicans of Madrid went to the streets asking for the republic and they were supported by all the others republicans of Spain.
Another reason for these inmediat proclamation was the threatness of the different progresist parties to the conservors.
Finally the First Spanish Republic has been passed in the congress of the diputees in a demoratic votation. The results were: 258 votes in favour and 32 against. The new president will be Estanislao Figuers. We hope that this new era will put Spain in the top of all european countries.
