Robespierre takes the control of France

Robespierre leads now the government.

Yesterday, 27th of July of 1793, Robespierre, "the incorruptible", took control of the government supported by the Jacobins group, which he leads, and the sans-culottes.

Robespierre said that he pretend to be firm, authoritarian and determined to purify France of any opponent to the Revolution, even justifying in his defense the use of the death penalty that he had so much opposed in the past.

Ironically, during the coronation of Louis XVI (recently executed by the Convention) the king visited the Louis-le-Grand Institute, where a young man, 17 years old, named Maximilien Robespierre, read a speech in Latin to praise him. [if !supportLineBreakNewLine] [endif]
